Playful Learning with Spielgaben is our monthly post sharing Spielgaben in action! If you missed the introduction to this series, you can see it here and also see links to our past posts. We were given the Spielgaben set to review and are honored to have them as a blog sponsor. I will be sharing once a month a detailed post featuring Spielgaben. You can also see my Learning with Ladybug posts to see what my daughter has done with this learning set!
Lessons We Enjoyed
This month we had more fun with Play Guide 2. I took a small screen shot of the manual for you so you can see how the lessons are laid out. They are very easy to follow and help me so much. I keep the user guide on my iPad and we use it for the lessons. She likes that she can enlarge each step if needed to see exactly how something was built. it’s a nice bonus to a PDF digitally instead of printed!
She wanted to draw her own picture, which was great! Before we began drawing, we counted out nine blocks, and carefully measured our paper to be the correct size. Then I cut it out for her and she began drawing her picture!
She loves using tape and helped me tape the squares onto the blocks.
She LOVED this!!!
She loved it so much she immediately wanted to make another one!
This was such a fun and simple lesson that I had never thought to do. I am so thankful for the play guide that inspire me to think of new ways to use our set!
Free Play
As you may have noticed, Spielgaben upgraded the set to the new Version 4.0. Since we write this monthly post to share Spielgaben, they graciously sent us the updated set so we could see the changes and you could see them in action through our posts! Below is the first time Ladybug played with the new set. She loves the new play board and the new building materials {vertex balls and rods that all connect together}!
My boys were equally intrigued. My 12 year old REALLY enjoyed the new building materials and has played with them quite a bit.
Ladybug has always loved the little tiny colored circles and the new play board can be flipped over as shown below. The circles fit perfectly into the square holes to make designs. She was so excited about this!
Her creation, that’s a white cat, and a brown cat with a purple caterpillar on it’s back.
Mommy Inspired Play
We used the new vertex balls and rods to make our You Can Read Sight words from unit 9!
One day while working with our IG word family, we made some of our words using the tiny circles. At the top she made a fig.
This is a shovel in the grass for the word “dig.”

I can’t say enough about the new storage system, it is AWESOME!
