Color Code the Kids

Color Coded Homeschool Supplies

We have always been color coded around here, Pac is green, Krash is blue and Ladybug is purple {or pink if whatever it is doesn’t come in purple}. We use this method for water bottles, drink bands, and anything that easily gets mixed up. We love to color code the kids to make things easier!

This was the first year I felt the need to color code homeschool supplies. I was at Target the other day and guess what they had in the dollar section, purple, green, and blue mini caddies for a dollar each!!

They also had star stickers and I picked up a pack of those.  Once home, I got busy!  I sorted out markers, colored pencils, crayons, pencils, scissors, erasers, and glue sticks.

Each child got a complete set of each {well, Ladybug didn’t get it all} and a color coded star applied to each item {each crayon, pencil, marker, colored pencil, glue stick}.

Specifically in the bins…

  • a few pencils {each child got a few of “their” color, that also have the colored star}
  • a set of thin washable Crayola markers {not Ladybug}
  • a set of nice crayons, in all standard colors plus a few extras {peach, pink, etc.}
  • scissors
  • glue stick
  • a set of colored pencils
  • a chunky eraser, and a few eraser caps for the pencils
  • a highlighter {their color} {not Ladybug}

I put the star stickers on about 2 weeks ago and they are peeling a tiny bit on some items, they may require a piece of clear tape to hold, we’ll see once the material begin to be used!

I am hoping this will help with the stray supplies and the never ending search for basic colored crayons!  It always seems that when one of the kids needs a RED, all we have are the many variations of red but not a RED.  I hope this is the end to that problem! We shall see!

Do you color code your kids?  Do you have a blog post about your own color coding methods, share in the comments if you do!
