We worked with units 1-5 from You Can Read, as a review! I could tell he was getting to a point where we needed to slow down a bit and just have fun practicing what we had already learned. He is still a young reader and I never want to push him too far beyond his comfort zone!
We used our Education Cubes to play with our words. First I had him take his word cards {laminated and cut versions of his Color by # Sight Words} and lay them around the school room floor. He also had to pick a pointer {notice his pink Gigi star wand}. I rolled the cube for him {or he did if he wanted to}…
He had to read the word and then run to find it as fast as he could.
After he tapped it with his magic wand, he gave the word to me. We kept going until all review words were found!
I made a few of his words with my cubes from our Reading Rods set.
I just handed them to him in any way, not showing or telling him which word was correct-or even which word he was looking for. He had to spin it until he found a word he recognized! He really liked this and did better with it than I thought he would!
He did the Crack the Sight Word Code from Ready2Read Unit 1 {The Moffat Girls}…
He also did the read, trace, and paste {also Ready2Read unit 1}…
I created another new add-on for the You Can Read program {base printables are free once they are released on the blog, add-ons will only be in the ad-free/bonus section}, Sight Word Stamping! He used our see through ABC stamps for this and really enjoyed it.
This week I also had him complete the writing words assessment, he did well!
We also played with our Sight Word Sensory Bin Word Search…
Most of our fun these past 2 weeks fits right into the Word Play category! Check out more wonderful ideas here!
Our summer plans for Kindergarten…THEMES!!!
The boys have chosen 5 themes {camping, pond, bugs, beach, and garden} and I will be planning over the next few weeks to begin theme weeks in late June. PacMan finished up his 3rd grade curriculum last week so we are in a VERY laid back mode right now. I want to take time off myself to thoroughly plan and prepare for the fall, I didn’t do that last year as well as I wanted to. This year I have lofty goals for myself-praying I can achieve them!
I plan to do tons of review with Krash this summer and maybe a new You Can Read unit here and there-but probably not until late summer/early fall-we’ll see. Mainly I plan to pull his review into the theme work we do.
We also have a Summer Challenge going on which I will be sharing about very soon!!! It’s keeping the boys from being lazy!
