Our Homeschool room has evolved greatly over the years and ESPECIALLY this year since we moved! It took me a long time to get things together after moving here this past December. This room is a gift, I am so grateful! It is technically the formal living room of the house we now live in, but who needs a living room? And that window light – ahh! The floors aren’t too bad either! I seriously hit the jackpot with this room, thanks to the previous owner and the many renovations they had done {it’s an older home}.

My daughter’s little desk {from Ikea but they no longer carry it} still sits there, but this might be the last year she fits in it. She doesn’t use it for schoolwork usually, but loves to sit there and color or draw. We have our Ikea Trofast shelves under the big windows, and love the table top they provide. I keep current unit study materials and science stuff on top.
This is a close up shot of her work drawers. I explain a little bit more in the video near the bottom of the post. We are giving this method a try {subjects in specific drawers with labels}, we’ll see how it works! The basic idea is that I will have the current assignment for that subject in the drawer and she will bring it to me when it’s time to work together {or get it out herself if it’s an independent subject}. You can see her 1st grade homeschool subjects here and our weekly plan. I plan to share more on this once we start using the plan.
Below you can see my favorite photo ledges from Ikea which we use as book ledges and a place to hang our color buckets {so my kids always know where to find a certain color they need of a marker, crayon, or colored pencil}. It just wasn’t home until these were hung!
We keep general geography books on top, and library books on the bottom 2. The middle shelf is for chapter books and the bottom is for current animal {science} study books.
The desk you see below used to be my oldest son’s desk but none of my children have their own desk now! Due to finances and space, we made the decision to use a group area, my desk, and our dining room table for working. This desk is now our group crafting desk, mainly used for Perler Beading.
This is a close up of the shoe shelves {from Target} on the desk. You can see all of the Perler Bead supplies, our littleBits sets, and school storage on the top.
To the right of the desk is Ladybug’s library area. This is a very LOVED area in our schoolroom! Krash often really enjoys her books also, but this mainly her area. On the top ledge sits our All About Reading/Spelling board, which we store up there but use on my desk.
Directly opposite of the desk corner is this white shelf {Ikea also}. The 4 shelves that are open are my 8th graders shelves for his school stuff. This is now his “desk” and so far it has worked well.
Ladybug’s calendar is below, with math supplies stored in the 4 shelves behind the calendar. Up top is storage for me, and also in the colored drawers to the left.
You can see how this wall flows together in this shot…
This white shelf is in the opposite corner and holds much of our group subject stuff, and extra supplies. There’s even an empty shelf, for now!
Here’s a view of my desk on the other side. I am still not done with the walls. We plan to hang some shelves and photos. It’s a work in progress!
This is a view looking into the dining room which we use for group subjects and all sorts of things! I share more about what is in there in the video below.
Here’s a video I made for you, taking you on a small tour of our new room! The video is about 7 minutes long.
Here’s a look back, for those of you who like to see ideas from our past homeschool rooms. These posts were all from the room in our old house.
