Proverbs 40:1-2
Our night was based upon the song, Out of the Mud {Psalm 40:1-2} from Seeds of Courage.
Of course we used the great printables Valerie made for Totally Tots to learn this verse and what it means. I can’t say enough how much these printables are helping bring memorization and MEANING to these verses!
First we all sat together and listened to the song, as Daddy pointed to the images and words on the main verse sheet.
This week I had a random idea to help bring a bit more fun into our night. The verse lent itself to a bit of fun by having the words “slimy pit” in it! I got a big empty box {which we had sitting over in the new schoolroom} and brought it into the living room and told the boys to get in. I taught them the meaning of the verse while they sat in the “slimy pit” We discussed how sin is the slimy pit we are stuck in and that God is there when we cry out. He gave us Jesus as our ROCK and gives us a firm place to stand! Then we listened to the song again and Daddy and I acted it out with the boys.
Here’s how we did it…
I waited patiently for the LORD; He turned to me {Daddy and I turned towards the boys and put our hands on our ears} and heard my cry {boys fake cried}.
He lifted me out of the slimy pit, out of the mud and mire;
He set my feet on a rock and gave me a firm place to stand.
Then we danced, giggled and did it all over, and over again. I LOVE the smiles on the boys’ faces in this photo. They truly had so much fun!!!
After the fun, we used the small verse cards to review the verse and the meaning. The boys put the cards in order and we were done!
I love this new simple routine, less planning on my part and still quality family time soaking in God’s Word! We will still be doing our Bible story nights too, mostly when we come upon them as we read the Bible daily to the kids each morning.
~We had Kirsten there who took the pictures for me!!! Ladybug was beat and already in bed by the time we did this! She would have had fun though!
