You Can Read: Unit 16 {there, say, of, now}
RRSK: Letter Jj
You can download all of the printables for this unit FREE here on the main RRSK page, just scroll down until you see them! We have backed off from doing all 10 of the provided activities in the RRSK units. As he progresses, some items aren’t necessary anymore and either we skip them or go through them quickly. My main goal in using the RRSK lessons is the Bible work and simple review of other K skills.
He always traces his verse on Day 1…
Putting his verse together on day 2…
The listen and color sheet was challenging for him this week, as it included the words “thick” and “thin” which he tends to get confused!
He wasn’t fond of all of the gluing involved for the math activity, but he did it. I wanted to be certain he could order 1-30 without help, he can!
The letter J verse tune is Are You Sleeping, here Krash sings it for you!

We used unit 16 from You Can Read. Here’s a glimpse into some of the You Can Read work he did. Instead of the normal word building, I printed out the word puzzles and let him use them for word building.
Making shapes by connecting words…
He turned the tracing page into a race, pretending he was Lightning McQueen…
He also had a race while circling his words…
Finding words in sentences, one of his favorites!
One day, we read through his word stack and had a gymnastics practice word play time. We set up all of the words he didn’t read quickly by sight and he had to run to the back of the schoolroom. I called out a word and a gymnastics move he had to do before running to find the correct word.

We began reviewing All About Reading Level 1 awhile ago, and Krash continues to make consistent progress. You can read more about why we are choosing to review this homeschool reading program here in our “Current Curriculum” post {see FAQ}.
I wrote a lot about our initial thoughts and experiences with AAR in this Kindergarten with Krash post.
We are doing 2-3 lessons per week, incorporating them in along with our Calvert lessons {see link above to read why we are doing both}. Here he was sorting rhyming words…
Krash LOVED the Design and Drill. Thankfully Educational Insights I sending us a replacement drill free of charge!
He is also in love with our Peter and the Wolf CD from Maestro Classics. He was listening during lunch and browsing through the insert that comes with the CD.
iPad learning fun. Here Krash was across the room working on The ABC’s of God, which he LOVES-I mean almost to an obsessed point! He has worked through the first levels and is now completing the word searches which are challenging for him. He couldn’t find the word LIGHT and was asking me for help…
Here we were doing the Rhyming Words PowerPoint show. I imported it into Keynote so we could use it on the iPad. Not all shows work perfectly but some do! On the right Pac just happened to catch K giving me 5 after completing the show!
I get asked a lot about our new case-it’s the Trident Kraken II and yes we love it! Educational iPad Apps here, also, iPad Apps-part 2!
A few items we used…
