Playful Learning with Spielgaben is our monthly post sharing Spielgaben in action! If you missed the introduction to this series, you can see it here. We were given the Spielgaben set to review and are honored to have them as a blog sponsor.
Exploring Angles
We have been using our Spielgaben set to explore angles this month.
Math Manual, Part 3, Chapter 1 ~ Play 30: Spreading a Paper Fan
I knew she would love this lesson, it was fun! First we created a fan together to talk about angles in a very hands on way.
I introduced her to the concept of a protractor and we practiced a bit with our fan.
We created angles using pieces from set #8 and traced them to form angles. Then she colored those in.
Placing stickers to reinforce the angle point.
Once we were done, we discussed the sizes of the different angles and compared them.
Math Manual, Part 3 Chapter 1 ~ Play 31: Fish Are Eating a Right Angle
Again, I had no doubts that she would love this lesson. She saw the fish and she was all in. I premade the fish, and we got right to it, using them to discuss right angles.
We used different shapes to see if the right angle fish could “eat” them, to help determine which shapes had right angles.
We drew little corners to show which had right angles and where they were.
Then we took our fish around the room to find other right angles!
She loved these fish! Below the big fish is eating the little fish.
Unrelated to angles, here’s a photo of one of her creations from the Nature Guide!
