My daughter is 7 and going into 2nd grade this year. Below are the 2nd grade homeschool curriculum choices we have made for Ladybug! Changes may come, but this is the plan for now!

We will not be doing all of these every day. Follow along with us and I will share throughout the year so you can see how it all fits in!

More Thoughts

Math ~ We have chosen to start Teaching Textbooks with Ladybug because we love it so much! Both of our boys use TT and we plan to continue with all kids. Ladybug will also continue on with Life of Fred, simply because we love those too. Spielgaben is a fun way for us to do some fun hands-on math each month.

Reading ~ Ladybug reads above grade level and can comprehend above grade level also. She LOVES to read and spends lots of her free time reading. At this point she doesn’t need a reading curriculum to teach her how to read so we are going to read together! I did get her a Reading Comprehension workbook, to be sure she stays on top of those skills.

Spelling ~ All About Spelling Level 2~ We used level 1 and it works well for her so we will be moving on to level 2!

Grammar ~ We will be using First Language Lessons Level 2 and Growing with Grammar Level 2. I really like the differing approaches, and both are very simple and don’t take a lot of time each day. I also created a set of PowerPoints to go along with the poems she will be memorizing this year through First Language Lessons.

Handwriting ~ Logic of English Cursive ~ She learned her lowercase letters last year and got through some of the uppercase. We will finish learning the uppercase and work more on cursive handwriting.

Science ~ My husband teaches our kids science and while at Teach Them Diligently, he decided on Apologia’s Swimming Creatures for Ladybug and Krash. They are all thrilled and I am just thrilled that he teaches science!

Bible ~ Picture Smart Bible K-3 Old/New Testament ~ She will do this with Krash {5th grade}.

Art ~ Although I am horrible at keeping up with art, I decided to buy the Home Art Studio 2nd grade DVD and the Holiday Arts and Crafts to use with Ladybug. Hopefully between those two I will do a few projects with her!

Geography ~ I got her Evan-Moor Beginning Geography just to be sure she know basic geography skills. I wanted a simple workbook format for this year and this was my favorite after looking at several options.

History and World Geography ~ Ladybug will join Krash for world history, world geography. We are using the same plan as last year…just continuing on!
