Today is National Leif Erikson Day!!! This day honors the Norse explorer who is credited with bringing the first Europeans to have set foot in North America. The U.S. Congress authorized the President back in September of 1964 to proclaim October 9th as a day to honor Leif Erikson and each president since Lyndon B. Johnson has done so! So, take some time to research this brave man who left his home in the year 999 and stepped on American soil in the year 1000! And don’t forget to link up your Tot School explorations to the Gathering Place and share with us all your fascinating finds!
