The homeschool curriculum choices blog posts are great, but what I really want to know is what families thought AFTER they used the curriculum they chose! I will be sharing a series of posts with you; evaluating our choices in each grade level from this homeschool year.

Math ~ Teaching Textbooks 4, Spielgaben, Life of Fred
Teaching Textbooks 4 was her main math curriculum and it was a perfect fit for her. I highly recommend starting with TT from the beginning, which is usually 2nd or 3rd grade. She will be moving onto TT 5 next year for 4th grade! We will be using the new 3.0 online version, read about it here!
We loved using Spielgaben to supplement our math lessons and will definitely continue with this. Spielgaben was particularly helpful in bringing a hands-on aspect to some of the more difficult concepts.
We LOVE Life of Fred but sadly we didn’t read as much as we wanted to. I am not giving up though, I just got lazy.
Reading ~ Reading Comprehension 3rd Grade & Book List
See our end of year book list update here!
Once again, this workbook was a great fit for her. She enjoys it and I love that she has something to work on mostly independently. This one was significantly more difficult than the 2nd grade one we used last year though!
Writing & Bible ~ IEW Bible Heroes
We both love Bible Heroes! I decided to take it slow with her since this was her first exposure to IEW. We got through about 3/4 of the book, and will finish at the start of next year. This particular book is for younger kids, but it is easily adaptable to her grade.
Grammar ~ Grammar Galaxy and Growing with Grammar 3
We began the year with great intentions but petered out during the second half of the year. We really LOVE grammar Galaxy, but didn’t stick with it sadly. Totally my fault. We did get through most of Growing with Grammar Level 3. GWG is a great grammar program and I used it with my two younger kids this year. I am still deciding on grammar for 4th grade.
Spelling ~ All About Spelling Level 3
All About Spelling continues to be a good fit for my kids!
Vocabulary ~ Spectrum 3rd
Not her favorite, but not her least favorite. I love the variety of activities this workbook exposes her to.
Geography ~ USA
This was a great year to focus on the USA and we used a combination of Road Trip USA as well as my states and capitals worksheets. We also kept track of our journey with our USA wall map.
I did a live Facebook video at the beginning of last year that showed the inside of her notebook {and her brother’s notebook}.
Science ~ Apologia Human Anatomy {enrichment class}
I just love all that she learned this year without me!! She did a homeschool enrichment program once a week and this was one of her classes. They used Apologia Human Anatomy as the base for the curriculum.
History ~ Veritas Press New Testament Greece & Rome {enrichment class}
She loved her history class, also taken as an enrichment class once a week. She brought home this HUGE notebook full of all she learned!
Art ~ Enrichment class
Her final enrichment class was art and she loved it!
Cursive ~ Memoria Press Cursive 1
I wanted a simple workbook for her to use to keep up her cursive practice since she doesn’t choose to write in cursive naturally. I used Logic of English Cursive to teach her a few years ago but decided on the Memoria Press workbook for review. She liked the book and did it on her own. I am fairly certain I will get book 2 for her for next year.
Extra – A Content Heart Junior
I loved doing this with her and she loved it too. We didn’t finish the whole book so we will continue together.
Stay tuned, I will be sharing our year-end review for 6th and 10th soon. I will also be sharing our curriculum choices for the upcoming homeschool year for 4th, 7th and 11th grade!
