So, we got one monthly homeschool wrap up post done this year and then our life went nuts. I had great intentions but life took over and a wrap up post was the furthest thing from my mind. Instead of wrapping up October and November for all kids, I thought I would just jump back on in 2015. But, I did have some to share from my daughter’s Kindergarten so wanted to get a post in!
But first, let me share a bit of behind the scenes life so you know why getting a wrap up post just wasn’t happening.
Near the end of October my husband had a bad accident {fell from a ladder up on a roof} and broke both of his legs, requiring surgery on both and a hospital and rehab stay of about 3 weeks. God is good and he will heal, and we are grateful he is alive. He can’t begin to bear weight on his left foot until February, so we still have a long road ahead.
In the middle of that, we were moving. We have now moved and are getting settled in our new home {that’s a whole different story}. The accident and moving just threw my life up into the air. We are still in the air to be honest, but recovering.
Much of our personal life is shared on Instagram, you are welcome to visit us over there!
Now, you can see why homeschool was on the back burner for awhile. Here’s what I did manage to capture with Ladybug during October and November. First, I share our group subjects, things she does alongside of her brothers.
Art
We are over-achievers with our one Home Art Studio project this year. Hopefully I can stop outdoing myself and slow down a bit. Just kidding, obviously. She loved our starry night art project and would love if we did more art.
US History ~ John Smith
We read John Smith as our second book from the YWAM Heroes of History series. I got these awesome Toobs to go along with our reading, which really helped the little two sit during our reading sessions. We enjoyed this book and learned a lot about Jamestown, Pocahontas and John Smith’s adventures.
The creations while reading were often hilarious. The kids each picked one character at a time from my box before reading, then would play with the ones they chose during reading time.
World Geography
We are following along with the book Passport to the World currently. So far we have made it through O is for Oriya {a language spoken in India ~ the alphabetical part is the languages not the country names}. Ladybug loves coloring the flags and learning with us. She remembers quite a bit for her age!
D.E.A.R.
Drop Everything And Read is happening in sporadically as we have not had a normal routine at all. She takes reading time whenever she can, she’s a bookworm!
I do specific posts for much of Ladybug’s Kindergarten {Kindergarten Literature Units, You Can Read, Spielgaben, RLRS and Theme Units}. Here’s direct links to the posts showing her in action during October and November {click on the graphic to see the posts}.
She also has other Kindergarten fun that we don’t write specific blog posts about. Logic of English, Speekee Spanish, & Integrity Time Bible Lessons.
We are using and enjoying Logic of English Foundations A.
She is learning consonants and vowels and we use our All About Reading/Spelling tiles to sort with. The white cards are from Logic of English.
Lots of fun sound work with each lesson, here we were playing phonogram BINGO.
Find the phonogram I say…
Identifying beginning sounds..
She can read and write CVC words. Here we were playing together. She got to add one gear to her tower for each word she could read correctly. She loved this!
For handwriting, I am using my Letter Tracing Printables & flashcards, LetterSchool app, and the Alphabet Tracing Pages from This Reading Mama {shown below}. Her pencil grip is an ongoing battle. We still use our pom pom pencil grip correction method.
We are still using Speekee for Spanish, she does this with Krash and they both LOVE it! I fell off the wagon a bit but we will get going more after Christmas. Below we were playing Red Light Green Light to practice Spanish color words.
We are doing our Integrity Time Bible lessons still, but these got pushed to the side in all of our chaos. Here’s the one lesson we did.
