Free Halloween Printables for Kids – I Spy

Halloween activities do not have to be complicated to keep kids engaged. This Halloween I Spy printable combines searching, matching, coloring, cutting, and sorting in one free printable pack. With both full-color and black-and-white options, you can easily adjust the activity for toddlers, preschoolers, kindergarteners, and older children who simply enjoy a fun Halloween challenge.

The printable features friendly Halloween images including pumpkins, ghosts, candy corn, cats, bats, a mummy, Frankenstein, spiders, and plenty of candy. Nothing is scary, making it a fun choice for younger children.

What’s Included in the Halloween I Spy Printable?

I designed this printable with several options so you can use it in different ways. The PDF includes a full-color Halloween I Spy board, a black-and-white version, matching mini cards in both styles, and two bonus cut-and-sort activities.

You can choose the version that works best for your child or print several pages and try the activity in different ways.

Full-Color Halloween I Spy

The colorful I Spy page is the simplest place to begin, especially with younger children. Kids can search the large board for each Halloween picture shown on the mini cards.

For an easier matching activity, cut apart the color cards. Then, have your child choose one card at a time and find the identical picture on the I Spy board.

This simple activity encourages children to slow down and look closely at details. They are comparing colors, shapes, and visual features while searching for each match.

Black-and-White Halloween I Spy

The black-and-white pages add a fun coloring element to the activity. Instead of simply finding each picture, kids can color the image when they locate it.

There are several ways to combine the color and black-and-white pages. For example, cut apart the colorful cards and let your child select one. Then, find that picture on the black-and-white I Spy page and color it. You can even take turns for a simple activity to enjoy together.

Another easy option is to leave both black-and-white sheets whole. Children can color each picture on their matching sheet as they locate it on the I Spy board.

Bonus Halloween Sorting Activities

I also included two Halloween cut-and-sort activities in this free printable pack.

Children cut apart the pictures and decide where each one belongs. The two sorting boards focus on:

  • Pumpkins or Candy
  • Animals or Pumpkins

These activities add another layer of learning because children must look at each image, identify it, and decide which category fits. The printable can be used as a cut-and-glue worksheet, or you can laminate the pieces to make the sorting activity reusable.

Sorting is a simple early learning skill that works especially well with seasonal themes. Additionally, cutting the small cards gives children extra fine motor practice.

Easy Ways to Use Your Halloween I Spy Printable

One reason I love I Spy printables is their flexibility. You do not need an elaborate lesson plan or special supplies. Print the pages you want and choose the activity that works best for your child.

Try using this Halloween I Spy printable for:

  • October homeschool morning work
  • Preschool table time
  • Kindergarten centers
  • Quiet time
  • Halloween party activities
  • Early finisher activities
  • A Halloween busy binder

You could also laminate the I Spy boards and cards. Store everything together in a zippered pouch or activity bin and bring it out throughout October.

If your child is just beginning matching activities, start with the full-color cards and board. Once that becomes easy, try combining the color cards with the black-and-white board. The printable itself includes these different difficulty options, with color suggested for an easier activity and black-and-white for more challenge.

Pumpkin Books and Supplies to Add to Your Halloween Fun

Pair your Halloween I Spy printable with pumpkin picture books, or other pumpkin-themed learning materials. You can find some of my favorite pumpkin books and supplies in my Amazon storefront.

This is also a fun way to create a pumpkin-themed morning basket for October. Add a book or two, the printed activities, and a few simple art supplies, and everything you need is ready to go.

If you are planning Halloween learning activities, there are lots of other free printables on 1+1+1=1 to add to your October plans.

Our recently added Halloween Finish the Picture Printable gives children tracing, drawing, and fine motor practice as they complete the missing half of each Halloween picture.

For early literacy and math, try the Halloween Cats Mini Books. The little books practice positional words, beginning reading, and counting from 1 to 5.

Kids who love Squishmallows may also enjoy our Squishmallow Halloween Printables for Kids. That free pack includes a variety of kindergarten activities covering early literacy, math, handwriting, and fine motor skills.
