{We were given the Spielgaben set to review and are honored to have them as a blog sponsor.}
We have had our Spielgaben set for years now and have grown with it. This year for 2nd grade, we are using Spielgaben as an extension of our math curriculum. Spielgaben is releasing a full math program soon and we were sent a preview file of PDFs for the 2nd grade curriculum. These are the worksheets you see in this post. They are not available yet but will be soon, follow along with us and I will let you know when you can get your hands on this new math program!
We are finishing up our second month of school and I incorporate Spielgaben into her daily work. I choose 1-3 worksheets from the math program per week and have her work on them independently {if possible} or with a bit of instruction with me. Then on Friday I gather the worksheets and we bring the concepts alive with the Spielgaben pieces. Below I will share a few of the worksheets we brought to life with Spielgaben this past month!
Many of the concepts I chose this past month were all review for her. Continual review in math is very important, especially with concepts that aren’t necessarily exposed in natural life regularly.
Below you can see us reviewing 2 different worksheets she completed that week. One featured positional words and one featured ordinal numbers. We have the Nature Guide PDF pulled up on our iPad, that’s what she has in front of her.
For fun, I had her choose two of the creatures from the worksheets to build so we could practice the positional words together. We found them in the play guide and she got to work!
We taped her creations together and used them to practice what she had learned and reviewed on the worksheet.
One of the other worksheets she did focused on features or 3 dimensional shapes. At the end of the week, we got her worksheet back out and I had her get all of the spheres, cylinders, and cubes she could find in our set and we used those!
Once she had them all, we tested her answers from the worksheet to see if the shapes rolled, slid, or stacked!
We sorted them all…
We also mixed them up and played a describing game. I described attributes one at a time until she guessed which shape I was thinking of. She did the same for me!
She loves her end of the week Spielgaben time, it has been a great addition to her math curriculum this year, providing some great hands-on learning and review!
See more math fun we have had with Spielgaben!
