My daughter is 14 and in 9th grade this year. Below are the 9th-grade homeschool curriculum picks we have made for her! Changes may come, but this is the plan for now.

If you’ve been following me for a while you’ll notice some major changes in this list, specifically with the addition of Study.com. I was given the opportunity to access an account through their ambassador program and honestly, I wasn’t going to use it but then I decided to take a deeper look and changed my tune. My kids have asked for a more organized version of online learning and after showing them a few Study courses, they both chose to try this for several subjects. My daughter is excited about having most of her subjects on one platform. We love TT math so will keep using that separately. I also really love Compass Classroom history so we will use that also. Read more below about each specific course we chose!

ENGLISH

She asked for a full English course in one so I made the simple choice of 9th grade English on Study. She looked over the topics with me and was on board. Will we like it? I am not sure, so stay tuned to see what we think!

MATH

She is finishing Teaching Textbooks Algebra 1 this year. She takes math as slowly as needed to be sure she understands and doesn’t become overwhelmed. If Algebra takes the entire year, I am fine with that. She isn’t a math-focused student, so we are in no rush to get to higher-level math early. We have used Teaching Textbooks from the beginning and it works for us!

SCIENCE

We chose Study.com Physical Science. It is a secular course and will expose her to theories we don’t believe in but I think this is good so we can have discussions. I also have textbooks focused on evolution from a Christian perspective that we will use when she gets to these units in the Study science course. We believe in exposing our kids to both sides of science so they don’t go into the world as adults not knowing what a majority of the world believes to be true.

HISTORY

I LOVE the history we chose last year! She doesn’t really like history in general, but I do! We are using Compass Classroom’s American History and the video lessons are superb. I am so glad I found this curriculum! I wrote a full review here after using it last year.

SPANISH

She asked to start Spanish! Since we now have a Study.com membership I decided to give their Spanish course a try.

GRAPHIC DESIGN

When I shared ideas for electives with her, she chose to start with Graphic Design. We decided to give the course on Study.com a try. From the overview I saw I think she will like it.

What will we think?

Now that my kids are older they prefer me not to overshare online and I completely respect that. You won’t hear many details or see them on Instagram much, but she doesn’t mind me sharing what we chose for each subject. I will definitely share along the way if we develop strong opinions and I also plan to share my thoughts about Study.com since that is a totally new adventure for us.
