{We were given the Spielgaben set and workbooks to review and are honored to have them as a blog sponsor.}
Recently we shared about the new Spielgaben Math Workbooks, if you haven’t read that post, start here to learn more about the workbooks! As soon as I opened our package of books I knew these would be a great tool to have on hand for reviewing certain math concepts. Little did I know that we would need them right away!
Have you ever had a child forget a concept you are certain you taught, and taught WELL? At least you thought you taught it well. This happened to me recently when my daughter confessed her struggle with telling time. I was a bit surprised honestly but soon realized it is because her world is full of digital clocks and I hadn’t done a great job of keeping analog clocks around. Our schoolroom clock on the wall came down who knows how long ago {dead batteries} and I forgot to put it back up. Upon learning this information from my daughter, I immediately got out a few of the Spielgaben Math Workbooks and looked up the pages on time. I pulled out book 3, 4, and 5 and found great pages to use in each. The photo below is from book 4.
We began with the pages in book 3, to do some basic review. Because I love the hands-on aspect of Spielgaben so much, we made a clock to use during the lessons. We had made a clock similar to this one before {remember I HAVE taught her her this!} but I couldn’t find it.
She used the clock we made to work in the workbook and it was a great way to review.
In the hopes of keeping her time telling skills sharp, I have assigned pages from the Spielgaben math books to keep her practicing a couple of times per week. We will also be getting our clock back up on the wall.
The Spielgaben Math Workbooks are such a great way to extend learning with the Spielgaben set! I will definitely be using them as we move along, bringing in the hands-on aspect of math that I love so much.
